I had no idea how to approach any of the essays in the AP exam. My teacher at school was teaching her first AP class and also seemed very uncertain. I worked with Richard for 2 weeks before the exam and quickly learned the intricacies of each type of essay question. Where before Question 1 had intimidated me, I later found it the easiest. AP Language and Composition was a very difficult class for me. I am not the best writer and I don’t really enjoy reading, so I knew the class was going to be a challenge before I even started it. The class was worse than I predicted, and I felt stressed about taking the actual exam in May. Fortunately, a friend of mine recommended Richard to me and we started class immediately. Richard covered the three types of AP Lang essays in detail and also had a lot of multiple choice tests for us to practice with. When the actual test arrived in May I was very well prepared and got a 5!

AP Lang was a real challenge for me in Junior year. I am not a good writer and I regretted wanting to “challenge” myself in the subject. Once I had signed up for the actual exam I felt my anxiety rising and I felt very lost. Richard was a life-saver! He taught me exactly what I needed to do for each type of essay and how I should go about preparing. I did lots of drills with him and eventually I felt prepared. Although I didn’t get a 5, I was still happy with my score because I knew how far I had come in preparing for the test.
